The Kappa Sigma Story at UTSA
Where Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service Come to Life!
In 1995, a few Kappa Sigma transfers and other likeminded individuals came together at UTSA with a vision for something bigger than themselves, a brotherhood that didn’t yet exist on campus. At the time, few knew what Kappa Sigma stood for, but founding fathers like Art Pike, Andy Diric, Jorge Orduña, Jamie Castro and Ernesto Garza-Gongora carried that vision forward with diligence and commitment. From their efforts, the Xi-Delta Chapter of Kappa Sigma was born, built to put people first while focusing on strong academics, real leadership, and meaningful service to San Antonio.
Our bond is rooted in loyalty, service, and connection, with brothers who stand together and alumni who remain family, raising their kids together and sharing life’s memories long after graduation. Today, with a network of more than 600 alumni, we continue to honor that legacy, leaving our mark at UTSA and beyond.
We live by the Four Pillars of Kappa Sigma:
Fellowship – is the bond formed through shared values, challenges, and victories, a brotherhood built on trust, loyalty, and camaraderie that lasts a lifetime!
Leadership – owning the role, embracing responsibility, setting the standard, while raising the bar!
Scholarship – Kappa Sigma is committed to academic and personal excellence. Guided by integrity, hard work, teamwork, and mutual support, we hold each other to the highest standards. The skills and traits we develop through this commitment prepare us to thrive in the business world and beyond, exemplified by the success and involvement of our alumni within the chapter.
Service – is giving back to the community we proudly call home through philanthropic efforts, volunteer work, and meaningful contributions that leave our mark year after year!
Our alumni remain deeply involved, providing mentorship, career guidance, and a family-first culture that sets us apart from any out chapter at UTSA. Whether it’s study hours, philanthropy events, or rush activities, every brother is committed to leaving Kappa Sigma stronger than he found it.

Kappa Sigma became my family away from home. Made some great connections with men I call brothers. Many of which I still spend a lot of time with.

Kappa Sigma has shaped and taught me many things. I have developed many relationships that will echo a lifetime. Chris Quintanilla, Andy Diric, Chester Aki, Greg McBride, JR Littrell, and many others. I don’t think there are enough words in the English language that can quantify a meaning.

Words can not describe the amazing experience I’ve had being with the chapter and continue to grow and succeeded heading in the right direction . We are looking at an amazing fall coming up and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the new class and the new EC.

The Four Pillars
Your success drives our legacy, and we’re here to help you achieve it through Fellowship that supports you, Scholarship that challenges you, Leadership that prepares you, and Service that connects you to something greater.
Leadership

Real leadership starts here with opportunities to take on committee roles, chair positions, and campus involvement that build confidence, responsibility, and practical skills. Through strong alumni connections, members gain access to job networking, practice interviews, mentorship, and real-world guidance. We provide a safe, values-based environment that fosters personal growth, giving our members the tools to succeed not just in college but far beyond, while building lifelong connections and leaving a lasting mark in their careers and communities.
Scholarship

We take academics seriously, making education a top priority for every member. A mandatory GPA is required to remain active in the chapter, and a higher GPA is required to hold office ensuring leadership is reserved for those who lead by example. Members are held accountable through regular grade checks, required study hours, and direct mentorship from brothers who provide guidance and support. If someone falls below the standard, they work with an academic mentor to create a plan for improvement, learning to take responsibility for their progress. This structure not only helps members meet and exceed their academic goals but also builds the discipline, ownership, and work ethic that will serve them for life.
Fellowship (Brotherhood)

A family-oriented and supportive brotherhood built on accountability, respect, and genuine care for one another. We foster an environment where members look out for each other like family, creating a safe, positive, and growth-focused experience. Through mentor support, collaborative learning, and active alumni involvement, we build lifelong connections and provide guidance that extends well beyond college, ensuring every member has a strong foundation for success.
Service

Guided by our Philanthropy Chair, service at Kappa Sigma is more than a requirement it’s part of who we are. Members take responsibility by actively participating in scheduled philanthropy events, campus fundraisers, and long-term community partnerships, with attendance and contributions tracked to ensure everyone plays a role. We hold each other accountable by setting service goals, organizing teams for each event, and assigning leadership roles so members gain real responsibility in planning and execution. Our commitment doesn’t end at graduation even as alumni, we continue to host and participate in philanthropic events, staying connected to our mission of serving UTSA and the San Antonio community. This lifelong dedication makes a lasting difference while fostering service, leadership, and a genuine commitment to helping others.
